Holistic Management and Pasture Planning

📚 In late September, APAEMA conducted a course on Holistic Management and Pasture Planning in Alaró, as an integral component of the Pasture+ project. This initiative stems from our collaborative endeavour with Camper, and its primary objective is to champion sustainable livestock production. This, in turn, contributes to the restoration of natural capital, mitigates the effects of climate change, and bolsters rural development within Mallorca.

👩‍🌾👨‍🌾 Approximately twenty students participated in the course, of which three were female. Half of these students are engaged in farming either full-time or part-time. The proposed changes are set to influence the management of a substantial area covering 2103 hectares.

🐑🐐🐄 The newly acquired management practices stand to benefit livestock comprising 430 sheep, 150 goats, 58 cows, 19 pigs, 30 hens, and 46 creatures from the equine family, be they donkeys, asses, or horses. 🐖🐓🐴

👨‍🏫 Gonzalo Palomo, the instructor, along with the local vet Magdalena Adrover, made morning visits to the farms of the participants. This was to address any uncertainties regarding the practical application of their learnings. We anticipate this course to yield a profoundly positive impact on our local environment in the days to come. 🌱
